Crossbreed between The Ritual and The Endless.

Sadly there was room for more and I don't think the budget was the problem but quite possibly the execution and the script. It is not a bad movie yet far from something I would recommend to a fellow horror fan because it doesn't quite deliver, mostly lurks around a good premise without hitting the mark.

The Axiom has some ambition to it, it tries to tie as many ends as possible yet some remain sort of loose, not necessarily in a bad way but certainly not what we would expect out of a better production. So for an indie film, I think it did OK, my problem mostly lies in the fact that it managed to show a pretty good idea but failing to deliver as it should.

Thus all in all it comes down to everyone's opinion and nothing more. You wanna take a chance on it, do so. See how it goes down on you. Maybe don't expect much of it tho.

Cheers!

Daphne with an axe in the forest

This is another oddball weird forest film. It reminded me of "Yellowbrickroad." I would suggest haters of that film wait until they can see this as a freebie.

Marylyn (Maria Granberg) goes missing in Cinder Park. Her sister and final girl McKenzie (Hattie Smith) organizes a group of friends to be a rescue party. Leon (William Kircher) from Craig's List knows where she is at. He informs McKenzie about the Axiom, a portal to other dimensions. The group enters and weird things happen.

I liked the film up until the last 20 minutes when it takes an odd turn. From then on it goes downhill and never reaches a decent climax. Good characters. Good premise. Good effort by Nicholas Woods.

Guide: F-word. sex. partial nudity.

The movie deflated so quickly...

I was lured in by the movie cover for "The Axiom". Well, and the fact that this being a horror movie, did of course also help win me over.

First of all, I must say that the production value to "The Axiom" was actually quite good, and definitely made the movie watchable.

And while there most certainly was potential for something truly unique and amazing here, then I must say that this potential was horribly squandered at the hands of director and writer Nicholas Woods. He did an amazing job in setting up the atmosphere of the movie the lead up to about maybe halfway through the movie, then it all came tumbling down in a heap of less than mediocre rubbish. The movie lost all of its momentum and just spiraled into a boring downfall.

The movie went from being interesting to downright boring in the blink of an eye, and I have to admit that I was quickly losing interest in what transpired on the screen after the halfway point of the movie. And the storyline never recovered from that point on.

The actors and actresses in the movie were actually putting on good performances, despite being severely limited and hindered by a subpar script and plot. William Kircher, playing Leon, was the guy that put on the most memorable performance in his movie.

As for "The Axiom" being a horror movie, then you have to look really hard to find anything even remotely scary. The only thing that came being scary, for me at least, as the pale creature that you get to see in the introduction sequence with Kathy Wu.

I managed to sit through the entire course of the movie, but I have to tell you that it was somewhat of an ordeal and the movie's second half was just horribly painful to sit through. "The Axiom" is not a movie that made any lasting impression on me, and it is definitely not a movie that I will be watching a second time.
