This is a type of movie that you walk out of that after half an hour and wonder why in the world would you even got green-lighted to be made. It is just three men talking, mostly about nothing, but a lot of that perverse and certainly for the young man putting up with Kevin Spacey's foul mouth, very uncomfortable. There are several breaks from being in the room where they head downstairs, and then they're back for a party. I truly felt sorry for the character played by Peter Facinelli, acting like he wanted to fit in but not liking what he had to do in order to fit in. Danny DeVito comes off better than Spacey in this, but he also doesn't play as showy of a role that Spacey is attempting, and in his efforts to look sophisticated and cool, the end up just looking like a pig.
Basically all this is trying to say is that male conversation is either very one-sided, boring or sexist, and that men can't get together and be by themselves with no women present and not talk in a perverted manner. "God created women and mirrors so men could see what an ass they are" DeVito says while he's alone with Facinelli, only because it's the only time he can get a word in because Spacey isn't present. It's not just the fact that this male bonding film presents men as misogynists and in fact comes out as greatly misandrist, it does it in a way that isn't even funny. Facinelli's character is unbelievably naive, but the film also gives off the indication that his character will end up being just as misogynistic as Spacey and DeVito are presented to be. A big pointless waste of time.

"We're in Wichita. First floor or 500th floor, it all looks the same"
Kevin Spacey grabs juicy part but never really takes off
Two experienced salesman are taking a young guy from the research department under their wing in their hospitality suite. Larry Mann (Kevin Spacey) is a bombastic guy obsessed with landing the big kahuna, a particularly big customer. Phil Cooper (Danny DeVito) is a world wearied veteran. Bob Walker (Peter Facinelli) is a religious kid who is relegated to be the bartender. Unbeknownst to Bob or the other two, Bob strikes up a conversation with the big kahuna but lets him go without giving him a pitch on their industrial lubricant.
This is a big juicy part for Kevin Spacey to go off on. However, he's left too much on his own. Danny DeVito is playing down on his energy and much more reserved. It's very much out of his character. After an interesting 3 role first half, the movie turns into a lifeless exchange between Spacey and DeVito. Instead of going off after an interesting start, this movie flattens out into something slightly less. Adapted from a stage play, this never really gets beyond that.
Kevin Spacey combined two roles
Following his Oscar win for "American Beauty", Kevin Spacey starred in the semi-cynical "Big Kahuna", about three businessmen (Spacey, Danny DeVito, Peter Facinelli) trapped in a Wichita hotel room expecting an important client. The movie has the distinct feeling of a play, with the single room setting and emphasis on dialog. It's certainly got an interesting plot, with its look at the unpleasantness of life for traveling salesmen. However, aside from the strange similarity to his role in "American Beauty", Kevin Spacey also sort of repeats his role from "Glengarry Glen Ross".
But don't get me wrong, I thought that the movie was worth seeing. Not any kind of masterpiece, but OK.
