Visually compelling film!

A thought provoking, beautifully shot film depicting the harsh realities of modern London life through the eyes of an immigrant. It's a gritty story, that's not necessarily fast paced but throws you into an intense story of hard decisions and heart breaking scenes for the rider. The music accompanied the London scenes fantastically. The riding scenes through the hustle and bustle of London were captured perfectly too.

A flat tyre...

I am not quite sure what the purpose of this film is. Clearly based on De Sica's charming masterpiece "Bicycle Thieves" (1948) this is just a dull, dreary and character-free 21st century interpretation that is entirely devoid of soul. Alec Secareanu is the man whose bike gets pinched, throwing his finely balanced family life into chaos. No bike, no work, no work, no home for himself, his wife and baby. What now ensues are a series of rather unimaginatively constructed scenarios in which he tries to retrieve the situation using legal and less legal means. The dialogue is sparing, but not as sparing as the acting skill. Nobody here makes much of an effort - the pace is shockingly stolid and for a thriller, well - there just aren't any thrills. If auteur Matt Chambers was trying to draw a contemporary parallel with life in modern day London for a family of immigrant workers subsisting from day to day, then he needed to spend much more time on his character development. Sure it is a sad predicament, but the film lacks any kind of ability to engender pathos - or humour. It's amateur stuff.
