Good watch, would watch again, and can recommend.
Amanda Seyfried, Ed Helms, and Tracy Morgan all do a wonderful job navigating the nuances of these roles.
The big problem I have with the movie is part of the core of the story they are telling. There are real people with that type of job, and they're small but important to the industry. The movie paints highlighting these people as a terrible thing, but that's exactly what the movie is doing to the real people it is based on.
And while we like talk shows like the one that targets the Clapper, there are bad always the sausage is made because their motivations are to stay alive, stay better than there competitors: people end up becoming a casualty of success.

Plot summary
Longing to wipe the slate clean and move on with his life, the invisible, down-to-earth professional audience member, Eddie Krumble, travels from one studio to another with his best friend, Chris, to make a living cheering for products on countless infomercial shows. Having learned to content himself with his anonymity, when he doesn't put his hands together for dubious merchandise or ask softball questions, Eddie is looking for excuses to visit his secret crush, Judy: a mousy cashier at a small gas station on Melrose Avenue. Then, Eddie catches the eye of the famous late-night talk show host, Jayme Stillerman, and just like that, anonymous Krumble becomes an overnight sensation. But, sometimes, love prefers to be quiet, and fame can be so loud and exhausting. Can there be a future between the clapper and the gas-station girl?

Clap her? I barely know her.
Happy National Nut Day!
This unrealistic romp around L.A. is unfortunately neither a good comedy nor a cute romance.
The silly premise focuses on a poor schlub named Eddie Krumble, who is trying to eke out a living as a paid "plant" in audiences for infomercials. He wears various disguises, but eventually is recognized, achieving his fifteen minutes of fame on a television talk show.
The romantic connection involves Eddie's love for Judy, a young woman who works in a gas station. The most unconvincing part of the film was when Judy feels betrayed and "stalked" when Eddie tries to locate her, using his newfound notoriety on television to reconnect with Judy after she left him. The plot line was absurd and, and the plot holes were wider than the San Fernando Valley.
The filmmakers were not successful in squeezing any humor out of the reality tv plot. And they failed equally in the love story. The large cast of supporting characters who were the "eccentrics" of Los Angeles were disconcerting in light of the deeply troubling poverty, homelessness, and dire straits of Los Angelenos today. The exact area where the film was occurring currently resembles something between a Third World nation and a war zone.
Sounds like a sex film
This is a sweet film I guess but missing a little more spark.
All the leads are pretty good in this but it just doesn't provide any classic laughs.
The last 20 minutes of the film are the strongest and do reward you for sitting through it, but its a bit of a chore.
Its nice but not much more.
