We're here.

The film opens with an exorcism gone bad centering around the goof of Father John Barrow (Devon Sawa). He gets placed in a Catholic institute for the insane instead of prison, although I don't know what he was charged with. Subplot Molly Hartly (Sarah Lind) has her 24th birthday which climaxes in her criminal arrest and being evaluated at the same institute that contains John Barrow. Molly is possessed with the same pea soup spitting, elevating, ugly faced demon as Linda Blair who did get better and went on to make prison girl films.

The film combines aspects of the original "Exorcist" film with "The Omen" and has it take place in a mental institution...and oh yea, it's a sequel to that other Molly Hartly thing. The film quality is slightly above a low budget indie. This is another "me too" film in an over crowded genre, that could have been better.

May have appeal to people who like to watch ugly preggo bondage. Not high on my kink list.

Guide: Sex and nudity ( Kate Yacula )

Being possessed for a reason...

I didn't have much of any expectations for "The Exorcism of Molly Hartley", as its predecessor movie "The Haunting of Molly Hartley" was a mediocre movie. But still, I had the chance to sit down and watch "The Exorcism of Molly Hartley", and since it was a horror movie, of course I did do exactly that.

It turned out that "The Exorcism of Molly Hartley" was actually better than its previous movie, and it was actually a rather enjoyable and entertaining exorcism movie. Usually these types of movies have a tendency of being repetitive, monotonous and boring, but "The Exorcism of Molly Hartley" actually broke that formula.

The storyline was quite good and wholeheartedly entertaining, albeit quite generic and didn't really offer anything that haven't been seen before. Well, at least not if you are an avid horror movie fan.

The cast in the movie was quite good, and I will say that both Sarah Lind (playing Molly Hartley) and Devon Sawa (playing Father John Barrow) were actually performing quite well in the movie and carried it quite nicely.

The special effects and CGI in the movie were adequate and also served their purposes quite well. However, don't expect to be blown away by visuals that are out of this world.

If you enjoy the exorcism movies within the horror genre, then I can strongly suggest that you take the time to sit down and watch "The Exorcism of Molly Hartley".

Surprisingly scary!

A possession film better than expected and sustains interest. Molly Hartley(Sarah Lind)was possessed by a demon on the 18th birthday. In spite of her personal suffering, Molly was able to lead basically a successful life. Graduating from college early and making partner in a company at a young age close to her 24th birthday. Six years, six months and six days after her original haunting/possession, the pretty young woman suffers a total mental breakdown and placed in a mental hospital.

Dr. Hawthorne(Gina Holden)witnesses proof of Molly's demonic possession and asks another patient, John Barrow(Devon Sawa),who is institutionalized following being defrocked of his priesthood for participating in a botched exorcism. Barrow in his personal search for redemption, decides to rid Miss Hartley of the evil spirit that has taken control over her.

It seems that 20th Century Fox spent the majority of the budget on special effects, which by the way are graphic and at times pretty damn scary. Disturbing scenes with religious themed obscenities. Fallen priest versus the devil. Worth watching, but the finale goes flat with a confusing ending scene.
