My cousin met the director and he said the sales company advertised the trailer as a horror movie. I know horror, this is mystery-suspense-thriller, but with a lot of supernatural-fantasy-creepy elements. A 10 year old could watch this. The only reason I'm not giving it a 10 is because it's not going to stand up to a $300 million Marvel or studio movie. I think the people rating this low is because of expectations from a trailer that makes this seem like The Omen, The Orphan, Exorcist, etc. I'm also a huge mystery fan and I think it's fascinating what they've done here with the reveals. Bits at a time. I found this movie intriguing the entire time. I see comments on here that it's boring. That's on the trailer. This isn't boring. I was never able to guess which path it was taking. Even though this is not an "effects" movie, the effects are decent, acting is solid, story is great. With a different trailer, this is a 7 on imdb, and as it stands now, a 9 for me.

Plot summary
Hoping to escape their past, Daniel and Theresa Snyder move their troubled young daughter Rosalie to a quaint Midwestern town, but they are followed by the evil they tried to leave behind. When locals begin to die, the Snyders turn to a Native American seer and uncover a legend that may hold the key to saving their family, or a path to a grisly end for them and all they hold dear. (This not a straight-up horror movie. This is a thinking-person's type of horror. Not a slasher, no gore. PG-13. This is "Paranormal Hitchcock." Mystery, Lore, Mystique, Intrigue, Supernatural, Suspense, Spooky, Creepy, Fun. You will not guess the twists. Enjoy!)

With the correct trailer, no way this is lower than a 7
Interesting effort and Mythology... Well intentioned with a good story, but with many rough edges.
I noticed another reviewer here specifically stated how the movie got better 'especially the second half' they said. I feel that is true. When I first saw the long runtime of almost 2 hours I was afraid that this was going to be another poorly edited, dragged out, self-indulgent Indie film.
Yes, my first impressions during the first 30-45 minutes weren't that great, mainly because of a LOT of iffy acting. The parents were okay for the most part, but everyone else was seemingly rather cringeworthy. But, as the story progressed even with its numerous 'Rough Edges', I started to become engrossed in the Mythology and where it was going. I very much DID like the way the film was shot and edited and the cinematography I felt was very well done. It had a very effective soundtrack that greatly enhanced the atmosphere and mood of the story.
If you can kind of get through the rough first half or so, as the story goes on I think it begins to draw you in. You may feel like fast forwarding it from time to time (something that I must humbly admit I did through some of the more cringy dramatic moments) BUT... as time goes on I felt less and less like doing that because I was genuinely intrigued in what was going to happen.
I honestly think that with a bit better direction, a tightened script, and definitely better acting by most of the supporting characters, I really think this could have been a very strong movie in the vain of, but of course not to the great heights of 'PHANTASM' I would have LOVED to have seen Coscarelli direct this! :D
But, if you can get through it, by the time you get to the ending I must admit that it becomes quite entertaining and has some nice flourishes. It is a shame that so many of the supporting actors/actresses (I'm looking at you Floating Cloud) were so poor. But, if you can overlook that and be VERY patient with the running time and if you appreciate a little flair of Mythology and Fantasy, you might just enjoy this very flawed but I feel ultimately entertaining film. I certainly think it is worth FAR more than its current IMDB 3.x rating. I gave it a strong '6'
With an accurate trailer, no way this is lower than a 7 overall
