The music is very enveloping, strong, beautiful. The main heroine, Runa, played by Moa Stefansdotter, is beautiful. If you love movies with all your heart, not just stupid action (as everyone who wrote badly about this movie probably wanted),you will appreciate this one at its fair value.

Plot summary
811 AD, a family, isolated in their home, deep in the woods a few days travel from Birka. They are poor. The hunting and fishing has been bad for some time, and the father, Joar, takes the desperate measure of going on a Viking raid. Joar does not return for a long time, and the family starts to fear he never will. Runa, the oldest daughter, takes over her father's chores in his absence. She misses him dearly and nourishes a tender hope that he, once again, will return to them. But in her heart somehow she knows the suffering of the family has just begun. There is something in the air, something in the water, the wind and in the soil. Runa is becoming aware of something vile, something dangerous out in the forest. One day when she is out hunting she finds a bleeding man, a warrior, almost unconscious. She brings him inside and the family tends to his wounds. As he heals, she realizes he is sent to protect the family from an approaching evil. And he brings news of her father.

An atmospheric film!
Magnificent!
As often happens, most of the reviews are 10 and 1. If you want a zombie movie; or an action film; this is neither. It is a folktale style film; involving what some of our reviewers say, is the Scandinavian equivalent of zombies. Worth the time you'll spend watching. This was on the free streaming site, Tubi; which is a real odd mix of films. There are some real trash excuses for cinema; and a few real gems. This movie is one of the gems.
You know the words. Do you know what they mean?
Joar (Peter Mörlin ) is a viking who has been away from home for two years killing and pillaging. His family does not know if he is alive or dead. Runa (Moa Enqvist Stefansdotter) the eldest daughter is good with a bow and has been providing for the family, but it is not enough. Fifty minutes into the film, dad shows up and the film only remotely starts to pick up.
The plot could have flowed better. The dialogue was boring. The scare factor was associated with "smell" which didn't come across the screen too well. Rather than tell us about the viking antics, we needed a flashback to see what happened.
Guide: F-word. Near sex. No nudity.
