Certain things seem to be in the way of growing up, of coming of age. Being on the doorway to adulthood, but either being afraid of taking that step or not having the courage to open the door. Question of why - as in don't you like what you see on the other side or can't you see what is there and you're afraid of even exploring? - is important.
Father and son bonding - or are they? Also a third wheel who seems to be reaching the son more than the father himself. Danny McBride is that "third wheel" and he shows off that he can be more than just funny. So the acting is really good, the story has gravitas and the character moments are there. Some might still feel that this is "boring" or "dragging". All in the eye of the beholder ...

Growing up (or is it old?)
Not Deliverance for sure
It is the DELIVERANCE for family audiences, at least that's the way I see it. I succeeded to watch tis comedy family item on Netflix. I would hve never gone to cinema to do it. Even rent it on DVD. Never. But it's a kind cute piece of work which I will forget in a few seconds, just after this comment.
That sounds familiar
I discovered this film today on netflix and that sounded familiar to me...Of course, I just saw, also on netflix, TEMPORADA DE CAZA, another feature speaking of a dad bringing his son for a hinting party in the wilderness. Although the other film from Argentina was far more drama, intriguing, focused on psychology, complexity.
