I knew of Lloyd Daniels when I was younger and he was a mythological streetball legend from NYC like The Goat and others.
I never heard what happened to him after San Antonio and this documentary gets into his biography and shows him coaching kids now and details the struggles and achievements of his life.
But my favorite aspect of this was getting to know Daniels as a person. He grew up in an extremely difficult situation and had tremendous obstacles to overcome off the court.
I came to really like Lloyd as a man who is extremely honest, personable, funny and a caring friend although, as he will fully admit, he made major mistakes.
Unfortunately, these derailed a career which had he not faced basically raising himself as both parents were gone and living in a dangerous neighborhood, his name would ring out like Magic and others because his talents were that great.
The director and editor did a very good job allowing us to know Lloyd well enough in 90 minutes to come away thinking he's a good guy and feel hopeful that the rest of his life he'll continue on the road to making peace with himself.

Plot summary
That Lloyd "Swee' Pea" Daniels became an NBA player was no surprise- at age 16 he was named 'the next Magic Johnson" and possibly the best player that had ever lived. That his NBA debut happened at age 25, with bullets still lodged in his chest and a body ravaged by years of crack-cocaine addiction, was a miracle. The Legend of Swee' Pea tells the story of a dramatic basketball odyssey in which the hero must ultimately confront a life imperfectly lived.

Deception of Basketball
This was difficult to watch. I was aware of Lloyd Daniels and his career, but this film gave some nuance to the story. You're conflicted when you watch. At times you're empathetic, and other times you just scratch your head. Overall, this film is pretty good, and worth watching.
