Cena was better....

The first one was a bit mental. It was funny and had an over the top villain in Robert Patrick.

Now we have another die hard in a hotel.

Good old Ted is not a star, and not an action star at all. In fact he is the worse thing in this movie. He hardly has any lines in the movie, which is good, and the fight scenes are a little lethargic.

Thank good then for Rooker and Morrison, who save the whole thing and make it just that little bit watchable for the audience at home.

The plot is silly, and as you would expect from a 'Die Hard on/in a.....' movie, we get the damsel in distress, the wisecracking sort of partner, and the army who don't like one man taking over.

There are some awful pyrotechnics, and you know when they are going to happen, because Ted jumps in the air in slow motion.

There is a fight at the end, involving explosions and a jump off a boat, but nothing else.

It's run of the mill stuff, not unwatchable, but don't expect to see Ted in a film anytime soon

A little better than expected

THE MARINE 2 is another film from WWE Studios, although it has no relation to the first aside from the title. The plot is set in a country very much like Thailand where the hero and his wife are holed up in a luxury resort attacked by a paramilitary organisation. It reminded me a little of NO ESCAPE in terms of set-up although it soon turns into the usual DIE HARD-style antics as a lone hero battles against overwhelming numbers of heavily-armed soldiers. This is a B-movie through and through but the good news is that there's a wealth of action waiting to be enjoyed here, action which makes the whole thing rather easy to sit through. The main actor, Ted DiBiase, is diabolically wooden, but there are more experienced actors in support like Temuera Morrison and Michael Rooker who are reliably good. THE MARINE 2 is no classic but it's relatively watchable as far as this B-movie genre of filmmaking goes.

stiff acting

After a tough mission, Marine sniper Joe Linwood (Ted DiBiase) goes with his wife Robin to her wealthy demanding client Darren Conner's opening of his tropical paradise resort. They find local guide Church who is a former Ranger. Later that night, they are attacked by a gang of separatist terrorists. The terrorists take Robin, Darren and many others hostage threatening to kill them all in 24 hours. The military is slow to act and mercenaries are called in. Joe goes along on the rescue mission but things don't go right.

It's an 80's action B-movie with better production value. The acting is not one of the things that are better. I really like the opening action sequence. However it goes downhill from there. DiBiase and Lara Cox are pretty stiff actors. There is limited chemistry and the movie drags. Even the reliable Michael Rooker cannot save this. The action is well done but I couldn't care less about these characters. It makes the movie nothing more than an exercise in stunts and pyrotechnics.
