Ah, Necrostorm. What have you brought us this time?
Let's go back to 1984, thanks to Hotel Inferno director Giulio De Santi and Neil Meschino (whose movie Mold! Was retrofitted into this revamped gorefest). Bentan Labs has just created a mildew that can spread and consume any form of vegetation with the goal of deploying it to destroy the food sources of enemy armies. But to their surprise, they soon learn that the midew is actually a sentient alien being devoted to destroying human beings through the grossest and goopiest ways possible.
The scientists that have survived join with the mstyerious mercenary Toxic to try to escape. But trust me - it's not going to be easy.
Less its own movie that a remix, it's still got something for the folks who love to see bodies destroyed in geysers of gore and gristle. You know who you are, there's no self help group for you and all you can do is just watch more of these things. So here's one more, albeit one that is self-aware and realizes exactly what it is.

Plot summary
The year is 1984. Researchers at the secretive Bentan Labs are celebrating the completion of their latest weapons project: a previously unknown type of mildew, capable of spreading and consuming any kind of vegetation... and ideal for attacking stockpiles of enemy food. When a sponsor is accidentally infected, the mildew's spores are set loose across the facility. As aggressive soldiers flood the complex and the infected staff begin to mutate, the survivors come to realize that the mildew is in fact an alien creature! To avoid an agonising death, the remaining scientists must join forces with "Toxic" - a mysterious mercenary who has infiltrated the building on a covert mission. Will anyone escape the clutches of this out of control fungus and the army of crazed mutants it has created? Body melts, alien mutations, tons of action and geysers of gore await you. The '80s are back!

This is splatter!
Well, what to say about this?
To give this a review I first have to set the frame for the review. You can't compare this to "ordinary" movies. This is a splatter-comedy spoof-sorta-thing which gives plenty of nods to others before it and it's very low budget of course. I do appreciate what they did with their budget though, especially the SFX-team.
If you like Braindead, Street Trash, Bad Taste, Death Warmed Up, Troma films and.... well you see where I'm going with this, you probably should check this out.
The main keeping of this film is the effects themselves. It contains everything you could wish for. Mildew turning people to zombies (kind of),exploding body parts, colourful ooze, melting skin, gushing blood and whatnot. There is really no consistency in what the aforementioned mildew can do.
The dialog is just all over the place with the colonel delivering some relly cliché lines from start to finish. Acting is so so and the actions of the characters, considering what happens in the lab, are just completely out the window.
You really have to take this film for what it is. It's a splatter roller coaster comedy.
I give it a 4 because at least it was entertaining in it's own hilarious way.
I can take a joke but not this one.
I do see two other reviews here, both of which managed to praise this production, so here I am, ready to ruin everything.
I am not a big fan of gore, and this one has plenty of it, I do appreciate a good low sci fi horror, yet I feel it is not the case here, and had a serious problem with the acting and writing. True, it did seem that The Mildew was not supposed to be taken seriously, and pays homage to other such movies, but I do think they could have managed a whole lot more if they went the proper wdirection. It is more like Machete but focusing mainly on gore and overreacting without actually having anything to offer.
For me it is a definite No, but strangely enough I do see how others might find it appealing. Just be warned, it is 80% green liquid, 10% screams and 10% close ups of annoying laughter.
Cheers!
