Gavin Stone (Brett Dalton) is a former child star who has crashed and burned. He has to reconnect with his father (Neil Flynn). He does 200 hours of community service at a local church run by pastor Allan Richardson (D.B. Sweeney). Kelly Richardson (Anjelah Johnson-Reyes) is organizing their annual Passion Play and Gavin talks his way into playing Jesus while pretending to be a faithful Christian.
It's a Christian film. It's trying to be a comedy but it lacks good jokes. Dalton is believable as a selfish Hollywood type but not believable in a comedy. On the plus side, it doesn't offend anyone unless you're a self-obsessed Hollywood type. It's perfectly nice. It's also perfectly bland. The funniest bit has Kelly mentioning something about a Hallmark movie. It's so meta that it's almost not a joke. It's Christian and it's bland.

bland Christian movie
A predictable, feel good movie.
This is a pleasant faith-based comedic drama about a popular former child star, Gavin Stone (Brett Dalton),who has grown up to making one bad decision after another. Employment chances about to register none, especially after being sentenced to 200 hours of community service after destroying a hotel rooftop. Stone returns to his hometown of Masonville, Illinois, where he is assigned janitorial work at a mega-Bible Church. The charming ego tripping Stone, puts aside the mop to audition for the role of Jesus Christ in an ambitious church production. Gavin will have to lie and claim to be a Christian to apply for the role.
Surprisingly interesting, predictable and a feel good flick. D.B. Sweeney plays the church's Pastor and Anjelah Johnson-Reyes stars as the pastor's daughter, play director and Stone's love interest. Also in the cast: Shawn Michaels, Tim Frank, Liam Matthews and Kirk B.R. Woller.
Enjoyable
Sure, a religious movie but just right combination of a good story and credible acting.
