The movie so brilliantly illustrates how absurd "civilized" society really is. The man? He's an absolute psycho. A disgusting human being so typical of "respectable" people. The son closely follows in daddy's footsteps. A junior psycho in the making. The Woman dispenses universal justice in spades.

Plot summary
Raised by wolves, the wounded last survivor of a cannibalistic tribe bathes in a river somewhere in the lush woods of the North-east Coast, where she used to roam free. But in the eyes of misogynistic lawyer Chris, the naked savage is the perfect trophy, and in the following days, the sadist will try to make her his project, bent on domesticating the untamed female by breaking her will. More than anything, Chris and his dysfunctional family want to keep the proud predator in captivity; however, they are no match for the feral, flesh-eating primitive in the cellar and her raw and merciless revenge. What were they thinking? Is there an escape from the brutal fury of The Woman?

Uncomfortable to watch, ultimately rewarding viewing.
Cannibalism and misogyny.
Jack Ketchum's "The Woman" early scenes introduces a normal American middle class family in the Cleeks,a young successful lawyer father, his sympathetic wife and three children ranging from preschool age to mid teens attending a BBQ and enjoying life. The facade doesn't last too long, and soon enough Chris Cleek, while hunting stumbles across an escapee cannibal from "Offspring".He captures cannibal girl and puts her in the basement, where he tries to civilize her via torture and sexual degradation. The film becomes darker and darker as we see that Cleeks family has its own ugly secrets.Disturbing horror movie that mixes cannibalism with misogyny and dysfunctional hell. The acting is great, there are some upsetting shades of incest and plenty of nasty gore. The finale is extremely gory with plenty of blood spilled and guts eaten.Haven't read the novel yet,but its film adaptation by Lucky McKee is quite graphic.I wouldn't call it 'abhorrent',though.8 cannibals out of 10.
What's the fuss?
Ever watch a film that everyone else seems to rave over, but which leaves you personally cold? THE WOMAN is such a movie for me. It's a tawdry and unpleasant tale in which Pollyanna McIntosh - who now has a career of playing similar typecast roles on the strength of this - plays a feral woman living in the woods, who is randomly kidnapped by a family man and locked in his basement. What follows is a drawn-out exercise in torture porn, in which the only thing occuring of interest is some sloppy bloodshed. The film ends exactly how you'd imagine it to end, and makes some heavy-handed declarations along the way. A feminist movie? Don't make me laugh; it's just the usual kind of film with women being tortured and abused. The whole cast is unlikeable, and other than a few unexpected character twists, it's very boring.
