A light hearted Heimat comedy

It looks like a remake of Narren Im Schnee with the original story thrown out and a new story put in. This millionaire, played by Paul Dahlke with his manservant played by Gunther Luders, goes on a ski vacation to Heimat mountains incognito. A young Dr fritz, played by Claus Baederstaht, goes on the same trip to the mountains. He's a struggling Dr.Paul allows his manservant to portray some one important as Claus meets him at the hotel bar, Grand hotel. Then Claus meets Paul and introduces his manservant ,also incognito, with the servant embarrassed about it cause Claus doesn't know the facts. Then Paul meets a little boy ,who's parents are at the hotel. They all fraternize with each other during the vacation. But it's the servant who tries to learn how to ski.It turns out that Paul has the worst room in the hotel. No body knows he's the millionaire. It seems in the story that the kids mother tries to make a pass at Claus ,but, he resist, there's another seductress who tries to make a pass at Claus too. Paul's sister and his daughter ,played by Johanne Heesters daughter ,Nicole, shows up and it seems that clause and her start to fall for each other. He later gets a letter from someone with a check, possibly a book he published or some research. It is later revealed that he's the millionaire. Then they leave . Claus and his mother are invited to Paul place but they don't know he's a millionaire. To his surprise when he discovered not only about Paul but the girl he was in love with is his daughter and that the important man ,he talk to ,was just a butler. There's a scene when Paul buys the small kid some toys and then the kid see's other kids sliding in the ice so he doe it too. Then Paul puts his packages down and tries it too but lands on his behind. Another scene where Claus the servant and Paul gets drunk and goes outside and decide to create a snow man. This is a highly entertaining classic German film worth owning on DVD. 01/28/10 I just discover that this picture was a remake of a 1941 American version of the same story, Paradise for three. This version had Robert Young playing the Clause Peterstaht role and Frank morgen replacing Paul Dahlke.

Overrated

"Drei Männer im Schnee" or "Three Men in the Snow" is an Austrian German-language movie from 1955, so this one had its 60th anniversary last year. The cast, not only the actors who play the title characters, were among the most known and most successful of filmmaking back in the day, even if they may not seem familiar to audiences anymore today. The film runs for 90 minutes and it is still in black-and-white, even if color films already existed almost 20 years earlier in Germany. The director is Kurt Hoffmann who also pretty successful back then, but the most known one we have here is obviously writer Erich Kästner, even if this one is certainly nowhere near his most famous achievements. He is more known for his children's literature. And I can understand why as I did not enjoy the watch too much. It is not a failure and there was an okay moment here and there, but all in all I was not really entertained and it also was not as funny as I hoped it would be. And that is a major problem as the film is really non-existent in all other genres except comedy. The acting is mediocre, not good not bad I would say. As a whole, I think this film is another example of how there were really not many great German-language films from the 1950s. This is nowhere near the best works from that decade. I do not recommend the watch. Thumbs down.

A warm film

"Three men in the snow" is a form of innocent cinema that has gotten more and more rare these days. It tells the story of a millionaire, who wants to explore the "normal" life and checks into a hotel under wrong name, leading to a series of comical occasions.

While the story is entertaining and able to leave the audience behind in a good mood, it is quite simply structured. Most of the ending is quite foreseeable, a fact that nonetheless never bothered me while watching it.

What I like so much about this movie is the warmth it carries. Unlike many modern films, where mainly difficult issues and problems of our society are issue (Which is often great),this is just pure feel-good-cinema. Of course thereby it also loses some depth, but if you're down a bit and could use a better world, this is definitely a film for you.
