Signing up at the last minute late at night to the final weekend of the Soho Horror Film Festival,I decided that before I went to bed on Saturday night,that I'd watch the shortest feature film in the line-up,leading me to discovering how useless humans are.

Gathering Brian (played with a sweet loveable loser vibe by Josh Zuckerman) and his friends together for an end of the world birthday party, co-writer/(with Travis Betz/George Caine/Kevin Hamedani and Ryan Scaringe) director Stephen Ohl attempts in his feature film debut to closely work with cinematographer Scott Summers to give this flick a similar mood to Edgar Wright's works,such as The World's End (2013-also reviewed.)

Slapping the song "Superstar" on the screen half a dozen times, Ohl attempts to make the alien invasion land on a hip,stylised genre Comedy with fast,fluid editing, but sadly misses the landing by miles, due to each whip-pan lingering on punch-lines that hang in the air just that beat too long, which not even the fairly good practical effects Alien costumes can overcome.

Having a group of pals be the lone force the aliens are up against, the writers miss every chance to express the years of friendships that the mates share, with forced references to the likes of (the far better) The Babadook (2014-also reviewed) used as attempts for gags,rather then ones based around, the stuck-up, largely unlikable friends,as the little green men destroy all useless humans.

Cheesy, low budget, "useless" humor, waste of 80 min I could have been enjoying some other "useless" entrainment. As a side note I'm so tired of the Hollywood left's potshots at the right. Oh yea, why wouldn't there be some of that "useless" rhetoric thrown in for some leftist fun.
