"Walter" was more nuanced and original than I would have thought. The drama, action, comedy, and character development is a notch above usual cops and robbers themes. Isaaka Sawadogo's menacing but sensitive Walter is the highlight, a complex, multi-faceted man portrayed with dignity and power. Highly recommended.
Plot summary
An imposing but kind and gentle black guy, Walter works as a security guard at a supermarket. One night, a team of burglars, consisting of the determined Victor plus 4 rough-edged and ill-disciplined youngsters, deliberately trigger the alarm to get Walter to come and open up the supermarket. But the robbers never imagined they'd be dealing with not just the stereotypical "brave" security guard but a former African warrior intent on foiling their ill-advised robbery attempt.

Witty, Dramatic Take on "Home Alone" theme
Do not mess with Walter!
At night, a team of 5 pathetic morons tries to rob a jewelry shop within a mall. Average IQ: 75. Probably less. Moreover, no luck for them, Walter is the security guard. They manage to sequester Walter (well... he rather lets himself be sequestered),but one of them texts disrespectfully with Walter's wife. Mistake! In the USA, they have John Wick, Jack Reacher, Jason Bourne, Frank Castle, Christian Wolff, Robert McCall, Bryan Mills, ... Now, in France, we have Walter.
Unpretentious, rather successful and reasonably funny. 5/6 of 10
Skip the first half hour or see another movie
The trailer explains the plot and reveal the few first jokes, so no need to write more about it. The main actor Walter is really bad (the others can make you laugh, or smile) and the first 30 minutes of viewing are awful... This movie would be a really better experience without these 2 flows (to be nice with it). I strongly suggest you to see the movie "Inséparables" of the same year and had a similar cast but is a much better comedy. Or skip the first half hour of this one. PS: this is a movie only for french speaker since it rellies a lot on "underground" language.
