Come on, only less than 2000 people rated this, if for some reason you loved it and think it deserves more you are not wrong.
The movie is very Japanese, in the west teenage love is more intense and kids are already doing more than this in their 13s. But understanding how Japanese people are and how they see life and memories as key to their personal growth is esencial for this kind of movies.
The movie is very cute and it is just a little summer story, it won't change your life or it might, it depends on how you see it.

Nice anime yet kinda boring in parts
Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop is a 2020 anime about two teens, one who is hiding their mouth due to having buck teeth, while the other is an ntroverted teen who happens to be autistic. The two teens meet up unexpectedly at a mall with romance blossoming.
Parts of this film I found myself getting bored as I didn't feel a connection for this than I did for the likes of Weathering With U or A Silent Voice. If you love anime than do check it out.
Trying too hard to copy classic summer animes
This is a film that would have been brilliant 20 years ago. Now, it feels derivative, slow and uninteresting. I am sure some things have been lost in translation, but as a non-Japanese I focused on story, plot and animation, and they are all barely average. The idea is not bad, but I felt like the implementation was.
I mean, there are some cringy scenes in it. The mall overview scene at the beginning, made from 3D modelling but trying hard to appear hand drawn, only with the same cars appearing again and again and again. The discovery of an old vinyl disk in an area of constant high heat. The slow moving characters on the field and in the house and noticing things a few seconds after looking at the same spot. The thematic coincidence happening again and again and again. The same drawings reused for different scenes. And so many clichés that were used mostly for nostalgia's sake.
Bottom line: perhaps for someone understanding the subtleties of the language, this film is smarter than how it felt for me, but even so I felt like the animation was decent yet paint by numbers, the plot too contrived and the pacing all over the place. I could barely finish watching it.
