Talk about a pleasant surprise, ignore the haters! You People is funny, awkward, heartwarming and real, and isn't afraid to address the elephant in the room. Jonah Hill does what he does best and Eddie Murphy lets him be the funny guy. It's rare to see Murphy so restrained and while both are excellent, Lauren London is the shining star of the film. She's a terrific actress, she rarely seems like she's even acting. I love the story line and the commentary about race...and the trying too hard way we often deal with it. But what I liked most of all was the balanced way the story is told and the message that it's never too late to learn and to change and that it's not just one side contributing to the madness. We all are guilty when we choose to see skin color more than the person underneath, and when we let that get in the way of love, life, family and friendship.

And did I mention it's funny as hell?

My brown in Tempe, Az had this showing at the mall multiplex. I had no idea it was made for Netflix until afterward. Netflix movies to me are dumb, boring, and sleepers, as in they put you to sleep they're so bad. Anyhow I have to say this isn't too bad. That doesn't mean it's perfect but for the most part the positives outweigh the negatives.

Eddie Murphy is dad to Lauren London, an attractive lady btw, who's engaged to white boy Jonah Hill. Guess who's coming to dinner with some cussing and few laughs. Dad doesn't approve of Jonah but the film examines more than the odd personalities of its leading men. I do think Jonah Hill is definitely out of his league here. Not just because Lauren London is hot and we're supposed to believe she's into him. No, a veteran like Eddie Murphy would have better paired with someone funnier and believable as someone Lauren London might actually find good lucking

The movie examines the two families ups and down as well as cultural differences. It's not afraid to go there either. What's surprising though is this movie is actually effective at being genuine and heartfelt. Had anyone said this is a Netflix movie I never would have guessed it because this one is actually entertaining.
