Come on people, this movie's not so bad.

This movie is so unbelievable on so many levels. It's a scary thought thinking that there could be 533 mini David Wozniak's/Vince Vaughn's in this world. For such a pathetic loser he really does get some great opportunities in life. It's actually quite an insult, well you know if it was real.

The first 20 minutes of this film was pretty painful but after a bit it starts to get better. It has more heart than it is funny. In fact some moments were gut wrenchingly sad. But for the most part I enjoyed this movie. As I continued to watch I began to come around to the movie and stopped overthinking the craziness of it all. It was nothing like I expected and so much deeper and emotional than I could have imagined. So no it's not a comedy but it's not a bad movie.

Limited laughs but with some heart

David Wozniak (Vince Vaughn) is irresponsible and needs $80k after investing in a pyramid scheme. He works for the family meat shop. His latest scheme is to start growing pot. His girlfriend Emma (Cobie Smulders) tells him that she's pregnant. She decides to raise the baby by herself rather than relying on him. His lawyer friend Brett (Chris Pratt) warns him against children. Then a lawyer from the sperm bank tells him that his donations spawned 533 children and many of them are suing to discover his identity. He is given the kids' profiles and starts getting involved in their lives.

This has some limited laughs. To me, Vaughn is wearing out his welcome as a comedian. He is better off trying to transition away from his loudmouth brash character. This movie has more heart than laughs anyways. It works better as a light drama. He works quite well in that capacity. However I wish this has more substance. With so many kids, this feels a mile wide and an itch deep. There are apparently no other parents in any of these kids' lives. Also I don't like the $100k debt story. That part takes the story to a different place which conflicts with the general tone of the movie.

Starbuck

A remake of the French/Canadian film Starbuck. It features a more low key and sensitive and bittersweet performance from Vince Vaughn.

David Wozniak (Vince Vaughn) is a bit of an amiable slob and layabout. He is a delivery driver for his family butcher's shop, his girlfriend tells him that she is pregnant and he is in debt to loan sharks.

Out of the blue a lawyer from the sperm bank tells him that his donations has led to 533 children, some of them are suing to find out his identity.

A shocked David then injects into the lives of his children surreptitiously as some of them are forming an action group. It allows David to interact with his kids, one of them has severe disabilities and it allows David to finally grow up. The question is it enough for him to acknowledge his responsibilities towards the hundreds of children he fathered.

Delivery Man does slip into mawkishness a bkit too often, it is not laugh out funny but it does have charm thanks to Vaughn.
