Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) has been catatonic for the last 20 years. Mary Samsonite has left him but it's actually a long running joke on Harry Dunne (Jeff Daniels). Harry has a new roommate who makes meth. He also needs a kidney. He finds out that Fraida Felcher (Kathleen Turner) had a child with him. Penny (Rachel Melvin) turns out to be as dumb as the guys. Her stepmother is trying kill her adoptive father for the money so that she can be with Travis (Rob Riggle).
It seems like the guys are a little more mean-spirited this time around. They're not as funny. I have given up on the Farrelly brothers. There are a couple of fun bits. The mailing address gag is funny and doubling back on it is great. The big missed opportunity is Penny. It needs a great comedic talent to play that role. She could have been a breakout character.

Plot summary
It's been 20 years and Harry Dunn has found something out - he has a daughter! Lloyd Christmas, his equally dim-witted friend, takes one look at a picture of her, develops a crush, and insists the two track her down. What ensues when Harry finally agrees is a bizarre encounter with an old lady and more hilarity because of their sheer stupidity.

HERS IS ON THE SIDE WITH THE STAMP
Harry (Jeff Daniels) and Lloyd (Jim Carrey) search for Harry's daughter, the one he never new he had. And she compliments our twosome nicely. As expected Jeff Daniels plays a straight man for Jim Carrey in most of their scenes. There were scenes which had me and the theater laughing out loud, and alas scenes that just didn't work due to predictability. It takes about 20 minutes for the film to break out and get funny.
The movie has 1 f-bomb and crude humor.
Downhill!
I believe it was Jeff Daniels who said that the directors of Dumb and Dumber were "guessing" about what would be funny the first time, but "now they know." If that is the case, they definitely have a fair amount of arrogance and narcissism, because this film is vastly inferior to the original. What started as honest-to-goodness stupidity has given way to a mean-spirited attempt to be funny. Harry and Lloyd are no longer running on their own redundant behaviour alone; they're using their naïveté to hurt others and to be lewd and crude, which is never what the original film was. This movie has its comedic moments, but it ultimately falls flat, trying too hard in some areas and not hard enough where it truly matters.
