A bit unrealistic

This movie would be fine if the guy hadnt left the girl at the altar at the beginning of the movie and then disappeared for 10 years. I have a hard time believeing that any woman who that happened to would just fall back in love with the guy without so much as an apology from him. She punched him once as payback and then they were back on good terms. It feels like most of the movie overlooked that unforgivable first scene and pretended it happened happened. All in all a nice story but felt really head-in-the clouds unrealistic. This girl should know her own worth!!

needs more drama

In the small town of St Augustine, Louisiana, Josie (Jessica Rothe) is left at the altar by her rising country star groom Liam Page (Alex Roe). Eight years later, Liam is a superstar but his personal live is one of empty relationships. When he sees a news report of his old friend's death, he runs out on his tour to attend the funeral back in the Saint. He receives an unfriendly welcome and stays with his estranged father Pastor Brian. He is shocked to find Josie with 7 year old daughter Billy.

This is a gentle romance about lost opportunity. I like Rothe in a couple of things and Alex Roe is relatively fine. The couple holds no great drama. The plot is inevitable. During the funeral, I thought maybe Josie married somebody else which would have added some spice. At least, that would have been interesting. There is the smart talkative kid. She's cute but it isn't more than that. Most of this writes itself which is half the problem. It feels like a movie on autopilot. It could have added a few things to ramp up the drama or given it more poignancy. The only interesting thing is the old flip phone.

The original split is blamed on him being young and stupid. It needs something more. It needs a lot more. He needs some kind of addiction so that he could recover from it. That could be part of his journey. He could go back to the church of his father. I don't mind a religious film if it's done right. The choking is also a weak reason for the turn but this movie has no great dramatic turns. This script needs some better imaginative writing.

Not good enough on many fronts

Not up to Nicholas sparks standard for romance. Not up to a Lifetime movie for plot. The guy Alex Roe isn't handsome enough for a romantic lead. Looks too scruffy like he couldn't clean up good. He reminded more of a football hooligan from London than a country singer. The girl is Jessica Rothe is pretty but they don't have a connection on screen. Don't buy the reason he left.
