In 1994 Apatheid South Africa, a man confesses to kidnapping 6 girls who are never to be recovered. The man dies soon after in custody and the case closes. The video confession is hidden away. In the present day, Jodie Snyman is an obsessed police detective driven to save girls being traffic by the politically protected criminal gang to the middle east. Someone is killing these criminals and craving initials into their dead bodies.
This reminds me of those grim British crime dramas. The setting is grim. The subject matter is grim. The lead is a grim lady detective who would be pretty if she gets a glam-up. This is written as Inspired by True Events which means that it's mostly fictional if not all. It adds up to a functional crime thriller which isn't that different from countless others. Jodie does present an interest problem in the White Savior role in post-Apatheid South Africa. She's like a neon sign. It's also an opportunity to play with that trope. I thought she could have a shocking reveal like that she was in on the revenge plot all along. They could be lesbian Batwomen. At least, that would be a little different.

Serious matter fictionalized
You know sometimes we wish life would be as "easy" to swallow or digest than movies are. This begins with quite the downer message though. Will it be true for the rest of the movie or will this take a more somber, positive attitude and outlook on the subject matter? I won't spoil that for you, I'll just say that there is way more action here than some might like - realism is traded for effect - for better or worse.
Acting is good and the vengeance theme is something almost everyone will agree to - to some degree at least. This is based on real life attrocities ... and it shines a light on them. Don't expect this to be a documentary though or close to the truth when it comes to what exactly happens.
So what's your deal
This film is inspired by true events. Jodie (Erica Wessels) investigates sex trafficking rings and has come up empty wasting limited resources. She is assigned to a homicide case and a vigilante is killing off high profile individuals who were involved in sex trafficking. They get the initials carved in their chest of a missing person.
It was an interesting story with all the moving parts to make it viewable. The part of Jody needed more pizazz.
Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
