Absolutely predictable, not one surprise, or novel idea from start to finish. You could call some of it foreshadowing, I suppose, but that would give the screenwriting far more credit than it deserves. Hard to believe that even one 'named' actor signed up to be part of this movie and the horribly obvious faux-plot that it pretends is worthy of your time, attention and electricity to suffer though. Do yourself a favor, and watch just about anything else you can, and skip this one.
This is probably obvious from the above, but I'd be horribly surprised if this didn't get nominated for multiple razzies. If not, the diner scene, and the "I can sit here all day with my **** down your throat" scene alone should get a writer a good, old-fashioned tarring and feathering.
Yet Another Gen. X -Z disaster.
Out of the Blue is a sad disaster, an utter fail in every way, at the art of movie making.
The one comfort the director, the inadequate script-writer, the (too many) producers, set workers, etc, etc. Can give their failed careers with is this: Don't feel bad, 93% of the half-assed efforts coming from your contemporaries in Los Angeles is drivel as well.
There are no 'Craftsmen' left anymore in Hollyweird; just porn producers seeking a quick buck, for no effort. I predict that movies of any substance, skill level, or vision that will speak to the human mind and heart will be coming from foreign makers. Yet Another death knell tolls for the dying excellence of 'Made in America'.
Funny thing, when I looked at the extensive list of persons listed as working on Out of the Blue's production, there was no casting professional; and brother did it show. The time, money, and effort put into one these conflagrations - and no one had the foresight to hire a casting director to pick the leading characters? So they hire an obvious uber gay metrosexual (one of the many producers friends?) to play the macho-man leading roll? I shake my head in amazement at the level of dumbness in the 21st Century movie industry. The 'leading man' was so ineffective that it gave me the giggles, and I cut the movie off 1/4 of the way through.
The leading man, who by necessity to the story's premise, needed to be a sexy, but a rough-around-the-edges heterosexual simpleton (The best example I can give would be Charles Garfield of the 1940's, Charles Bronson of the 1960's, or perhaps Mark Wahlberg of the'90s - although Wahlberg has a little too much sass for the role) The point being, is they 100% picked the wrong actor for the leading man.
But wait. There's more wrong with the movie. The amateurish, and of course foul mouthed, script. I literally shrunk back and cringed as the gifted actor, Hank Azzaria (Bird Cage, 1996) spewed out several vile, filthy incongruous lines that were extreme and did nothing to shape his character in the movie. The thin plot, the contrived characters, the wooden acting.... all combined together to put together less than even the most basic TV-level movie of the week. Frankly, several of the seasoned actors actually appeared embarrassed at even working in this movie.
Don't waste your time on this trash, people.
