'Top End Wedding' is from the director of 'The Sapphires' and also stars Tapsell, this time as Lauren, an up-&-coming lawyer from Adelaide. She gets engaged to Ned (Lee),which sets in motion a whirlwind trip to Darwin to try and pull together a wedding in 10 days before she's required back at work, thanks to her demanding boss Ms Hampton (Fox).
Back in Darwin, we meet Lauren's Dad, Trevor (Higginson) and the twist that her Mum, Daphne (Yovich),has left to find her roots. This "mystery" forces Lauren and Ned on a roadtrip to find her, and allows us to see the spectacular scenery in Kakadu and Katherine, as well as eventually, the Tiwi Islands. There's plenty of funny moments along the way and interesting characters.
As well as the great settings, there's also some emotional reunions for Lauren and Daphne with their people and country on the Tiwi Islands - it's all handled really well and is very touching. It's fantastic to see Aboriginal actors and Australian settings on film - I wish there was more. Overall, a lovely film in terms of story, music, characters and settings.

Plot summary
Lawyers in Adelaide, Lauren Ford and Ned Pelton have just gotten engaged. While on this same day indecisive and insecure Lauren has been promoted to full associate at Hampton and Associates by her demanding boss Ms. Hampton who Ned refers to as Cruella De Vil, Ned has not told Lauren in she accepting the marriage proposal that he, ill-equipped emotionally to handle the work, has quit his job as a public prosecutor, he arguably only going into the work to meet his now deceased father's expectations in following in his footsteps. In her focus on her own career especially with high maintenance Ms. Hampton, Lauren has never noticed Ned's dissatisfaction with his job. Within Ned's desire not to have a long engagement, Lauren wants to get married in ten days in her hometown of Darwin as she is able to negotiate the time off with Ms. Hampton. Upon Lauren and Ned's arrival in Darwin, they discover that six months ago her aborigine mother, Daffy Ford, left her father, Trevor Ford, for undisclosed reasons, her whereabouts unknown. With what little information they have on hand, Lauren and Ned leave teary-eyed Trevor in Darwin to lead the wedding planning as they try to find Daffy, Ned funneling his newfound energies into this task, those energies needed as Lauren, who really wants her mother at her wedding, is the one more apt to give up as they seemingly are going on a wild goose chase. As they trek through the expanses of Northern Australia, the leads point them in the direction of the Tiwi Islands, Daffy's homeland where she ran away from at age eighteen on what was to be her own wedding day to escape the arranged marriage - something she only ever talked about in veiled terms to Lauren - never to have returned. With this new information in the context of their situation, Lauren and Ned can't help but reflect on their own relationship in the count down to their own supposed wedding day.

Well-made Aussie rom-com
This is not a comedy film! Not a single laughable scene! Talking entire film! Bored to freaking death!
This film start at 1976, a girl runaway from her wedding scene! As turnout, this film is about "Lauren" searching her mom "Daffy" to attend her wedding ceremony with her husband "Ned"! Entire film full of boring conversation scene! The dancing scene in the film also very annoying and bored! Barely laughable scene is, Ned hit his head several times in a car while he searching things! Barely intense scene is, Ned fighting with Lauren's father "Trevor" at the closet scene! At the end, Lauren found her mother, Ned and Lauren pronounce as lawful couple at the ceremony! Still have some ceremony picture after the credit! That's it! Completely wasting time to watch!
It's Okay...
This isn't a terrible romantic comedy. I am certainly not the target demographic, and though I've given this film a 2.5/5 star rating, I think it's a film that people like my mom would like. There are movies out there that work much better for some people than they do for others, and the schmaltzy, cheesy romance stuff doesn't always work for me unless the characters are ones that I actually care about. In this film, I thought the characters were likeable, but I didn't care about them. The humor also felt a touch one note. The dad crying in the closet was a gag that was used repeatedly; at first it grew funnier with every time, but then the gag kept getting used, and it went beyond the realm of funny and into the realm of annoying. By the fifth or sixth time the gag was used, I wondered how many more times I would have to hear that bloody song before the credits rolled.
